Academy awards: Five Great Stars Who've Never Been Nominated

For his role in "Mess Tailor Solider Spy," Gary Oldman gets lots of buzz like a potential Oscar nominee. It might be his first, if you're able to accept is as true. Hes put their hands up in a lot of memorable roles through the years, but hes never received any adulation in the Academy. Awaiting the hopeful great news, we emerged with a listing of 5 other stars whove never become the phone call either. Steve Buscemi Despite a string of probably the most memorable supporting roles in film history like Mr. Pink in "Reservoir Dogs" and Carl Showalter in "Fargo," the bug-eyed Brooklynite hasn't been nominated. With many of his work nowadays arriving HBOs "Boardwalk Empire," Buscemi may need to be satisfied with a Golden Globe or perhaps an Emmy. Maybe next, the Academy will begin appreciating what theyve been missing all along. John Goodman Possibly pigeonholed for his role in "Roseanne," John Goodman hasn't received much official fascination with his memorable looks in movies like "The Large Lebowski" and "Barton Fink." Actually, thats most likely area of the problem. Goodman's an hugely gifted actor, but his roles around the giant screen are generally a little light-hearted, use the Coens and Kevin Cruz aside. He'll receive some attention included in the ensemble for "The Artist," but hes never really commanded a prominent dramatic role inside a large movie. Which should change, clearly. Val Kilmer Kilmer happens to be one of the most impressive Method stars of his generation, dazzling in lots of large, meaty roles. The Academy hasn't proven any love, though. Maybe because hes this kind of eccentric figure from the camera, but additionally, he's not so selective together with his roles. Just take a look at his IMDb page and wince whatsoever the 2nd-rate street crime movies hes been associated with (for instance, 2009's "Roads of Bloodstream" starring 50 Cent). Maybe he should postpone around the resume filler, but that would not be very Val Kilmer of him. Jim Carrey Carrey predated Adam Sandler like a large, wacky guy who'd periodically leave his spend every couple of years for any killer serious role. "The Truman Show" was the very first "Punchdrunk Love," clearly. But Carrey has had on more ambitious movies like "Eternal Sunshine from the Spotless Mind" and it has still never been compensated using the overwhelming critical love that always follows work change of these magnitude. Together with his star in recession, maybe nows an ideal time for Carrey to re-emerge inside a more severe condition. Less "Yes Guy," more "Guy around the Moon." Jennifer Jason Leigh We all know—there ought to be more women about this list. However the Academy recognizes most serious dramatic stars sooner or later or any other (Mia Farrow aside). Jennifer Jason Leigh is among the rare dramatic stars that has ended up with the cracks, despite notable roles in "Short Cuts," "eXistenZ," and "Margot in the Wedding." Theyre not so Academy-attractive roles, but shes been acting forever and is constantly on the deliver a trusted make of dry, sardonic wit combined with emotional gravitas. Eventually, spend go that allows her knock it from the park. Who do you want to see nominated to have an Oscar? Tell us within the comments below as well as on Twitter!

New images for Prometheus and The Hobbit

We're still buzzing from the release of the first trailers for Prometheus and The Hobbit just before Christmas, and their respective studios have ensured that our excitement keeps ticking over by releasing a pair of new stills into the wild. The new Prometheus image sees Noomi Rapace's character looking worried as a strange object glows eerily next to her. Of course, it could just be a snazzy torch, but we'd leave it well alone all the same.Meanwhile, the latest Hobbit snap shows Martin Freeman's Bilbo making his way through a woodland area, sporting his usual expression of mild concern. Perhaps he can smell one of the three trolls up ahead?Aside from The Dark Knight Rises, these are probably the two films we're most excited about in 2012. And whilst we await The Hobbit with a cosy feeling of nostalgia and comfort, we're equally eager to find out what nasty surprises Ridley Scott has in store for Rapace and co.Prometheus will be the first of the two films to land, arriving in UK cinemas on 1 June 2012. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will follow later in the year, on 14 December. It's going to be a very exciting twelve months....
