POW partners with digital outfit Vuguru

Stan Lee's POW Entertainment is partnering with digital studio Vuguru to produce content across a range of platforms. Vuguru, which is owned by Michael Eisner's Tornante and backed by Canada's Rogers Media, will finance and distribute select programming developed in concert with POW. No specific projects are ready to be announced. "Stan is not only a prolific creator but a magnet for talent," said Larry Tanz, prexy of Vuguru. "He has a unique sensibility for telling stories that have a hero at the core and a serious but fun style to them." It's the first such partnership with Vuguru, which has built a reputation for investing more in digital productions on a regular basis than any other company. Vuguru also has multiple-project distribution deals in place with AOL and Content Media. "It is the start of an exciting new chapter that will enable us to expand our storytelling into the digital realm and more quickly and effectively reach our global audience," said Gill Champion, president of POW. "Stan and the creative team are delighted to begin developing new worlds and amazing characters and cannot think of a better partner than Vuguru to help realize this ambition." There will be no one distribution strategy employed by the partnership. Vuguru has been known to introduce programming in short-form episodes online before reassembling them for long-form consumption in international syndication and other platforms. Deal was brokered by Scott Nocas, formerly of Sony Network Entertainment. Contact Andrew Wallenstein at andrew.wallenstein@variety.com
